Welcome to The Festive Dwell. I’m Clara Jenkins, a former visual merchandiser, lifelong holiday enthusiast, and the person who absolutely believes you deserve to light a candle that smells like spiced oranges on a random Tuesday in February, just because it makes the house feel like home.
If you’ve ever looked at a perfectly styled mantel online and thought, “Cute… but where would I even start?” you’re in exactly the right place. Around here, we decorate with heart, we keep it doable, and we aim for cozy and collected over “catalog perfect.”

How I became the holiday person
I grew up in a house where my mom went all-out for every minor holiday. I’m talking festive napkins for Valentine’s Day, little themed treats for St. Patrick’s Day, and a fresh wreath for whatever season we were in. Back then, I thought every family rotated wreaths like it was a normal part of life.
That early love of seasonal rhythm eventually turned into a career in visual merchandising for a home decor retailer. Those years taught me the tricks I still use today: how to build a cohesive color palette, how to create a focal point without spending a fortune, how to style a fireplace mantel so it feels balanced from across the room, and how to transition your home from one season to the next without hauling out ten tubs of decor every month.
Somewhere along the way, friends started texting me photos of their shelves and asking, “What do I do with this?” And I realized something important: a lot of people want a festive, welcoming home, but feel overwhelmed by the choices, the cost, or the time it seems to take.
That’s why I created The Festive Dwell.
What The Festive Dwell does
The mission is simple: help you create a home that feels warm and inviting in every season, without stress, without perfectionism, and without having to buy a whole new personality at the craft store.
Here’s what you can expect when you hang out with me:
- Budget-friendly DIYs that look elevated, even if you’re working with dollar-store basics and what’s already in your closet.
- Seasonal styling “recipes” for mantels, entry tables, coffee tables, and porches so you can repeat a formula instead of reinventing the wheel.
- Tablescapes that feel special but still leave room for the food, the elbows, and the laughter.
- Smart investment-piece advice so you can slowly build a collection that works year after year.
- Nature-foraged magic, like pine clippings, dried citrus, branches, acorns, and garden greens that make everything feel layered and real.
Think of this site as your seasonal game plan. You do not need more stuff. You need a plan, a little inspiration, and someone gently reminding you that the best decor is the kind that makes people want to stay awhile.
My decorating philosophy
I’m a big believer in blending a few high-quality pieces with clever, inexpensive touches. The trick is choosing items that do a lot of work.
My forever favorites
- One great wreath base you can restyle with ribbon, picks, or clipped greenery
- Neutral candleholders that fit any season with a simple candle swap
- A set of warm white twinkle lights that instantly makes everything feel intentional
- Versatile vases and baskets that can hold pumpkins, ornaments, pinecones, or spring branches
My “perfectly imperfect” rule
Homes are meant to be lived in. If your garland droops a little because the kids ran through the living room like it was a track meet, you’re doing it right. The goal is a space that feels welcoming, not a space that feels untouchable.

What I’m like off-camera
I’m bubbly, highly organized, and deeply obsessed with a good label maker. I also need you to know that my craft room is usually a disaster zone. There are hot glue sticks in places hot glue sticks should never be, and I will absolutely buy vintage ornaments at a flea market even when I promised myself I wouldn’t.
But I also know this: creating a festive environment makes the everyday feel more memorable. It’s the glow of the tree reflected in someone’s eyes. It’s the table set just because. It’s the way guests exhale when they walk into a space that feels warm and cared for.
That feeling is what I’m chasing, season after season, and I’m so happy you’re here for it.
Start here
If you’re not sure where to begin, start small and start visible. Pick one spot you pass every day, then give it a seasonal moment.
- Entryway: a wreath, a bowl for keys, and one candle
- Dining table: a runner, a simple centerpiece, and cloth napkins
- Mantel or shelf: a garland base, a pair of candles, and one “hero” piece in the center
If you want a quick win, try this 10-minute setup: add a simple garland (real or faux) to your mantel, place two matching candleholders on either side, then tuck in one small “hero” element in the middle (a framed print, a mirror, or a little vase of greenery). Done, balanced, and cozy.
A spring table recipe
Want one more easy formula? Here’s my no-fuss spring table “recipe,” and it works for brunch, birthdays, and regular Tuesday dinners.
- Base: a light runner or a woven placemat in the center
- Height: one simple vase of grocery-store tulips or branches
- Glow: two small votives or tapers in neutral holders
- Texture: a bowl of lemons, pears, or artichokes you can actually eat later
- Finish: cloth napkins tied with twine or ribbon
